FOCUS Clinic List 2023: Heidelberg University Hospital is one of the best hospitals in Germany

For the Clinic List 2023 of the news magazine FOCUS, more than 1,600 hospitals with over 14,000 specialist clinics were evaluated according to scientific methods in a national comparison - making the ranking the largest in the German-speaking world. 

In addition to evaluating the hospitals' quality reports (services offered and technical and personnel equipment), the Fact Field research institute interviewed chief physicians about study participation and special equipment, quality managers about safety and hygiene, and nursing managers about capacities and patient services. In addition, recommendations were obtained from physicians in private practice, clinicians at other hospitals, and patient referrals. As a result, more than 17,000 expert recommendations were incorporated into the 2023 hospital list. 

"TOP National Hospital 2023"

Heidelberg University Hospital has once again demonstrated its outstanding position. It ranked sixth in the nationwide survey and received the "TOP National Hospital" quality seal. 

"TOP National Specialist Hospital 2023"

In addition, "TOP National Specialist Hospitals" were honored in the individual rankings. The criteria included the qualifications of specialists and expert staff, patient satisfaction, clinical quality and risk management, and hygiene standards. 

The following clinics at Heidelberg University Hospital have been awarded the "TOP National Specialist Clinic 2023" seal:

• The eye clinic, 
• the gynecological clinic, 
• the Dermatology Clinic, 
• several specialized clinics of the Surgical Center, such as the Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery, the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery, and the Clinic for Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery,
• the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, 
• the Department of Neurology and Polyclinic, 
• the Clinic for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, 
• several clinics of the Center for Internal Medicine, such as the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as
• the Clinic for Hematology, Oncology and Rheumatology, 
• the Radiology Clinic, 
• the Center for Psychosocial Medicine 
• and the Thorax Clinic Heidelberg. 

"Top Specialist Hospital for International Patients 2023"

In addition to the specialist expertise of the hospitals, the special focus on the demands of international patients was also analyzed. Heidelberg University Hospital demonstrated its expertise in all the specialist areas examined, from cardiology and oncology to orthopedics, and was accordingly named a "Top Specialist Hospital for International Patients 2023".
