Specialized Lung Center with 125 years of experience
More than 45,000 patients a year as well as around 2,000 operations and around 1,100 employees - in its 125-year history, the Thoraxklinik Heidelberg has developed from a tuberculosis clinic into the largest specialized center for lung diseases in Germany and one of the most experienced and largest specialized lung center in Europe.
The first patients were treated here as early as 1899. Today, the Thoraxklinik is an internationally recognized center for the diagnostic and treatment of diseases of the thoracic organs, being from the chest and lungs. It is integrated into the broad clinical spectrum of Heidelberg University Hospital. State-of-the-art procedures, such as robotic minimally invasive thoracic surgery, ensure the greatest possible treatment successes. One of the focuses, among others, is on the treatment of lung cancer.
The Thoraxklinik is also part of the German Center for Lung Research (Deutsches Zentrum für Lungenforschung, DZL) and works closely with the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) together.
